Adrienne Maples
ARTIST STATEMENT
Adrienne Maples is an award-winning photographer and creative mentor known for weaving magic into everyday moments through her lens. Deeply rooted in Southern storytelling and inspired by the beauty of real life, Adrienne’s photography shines with authenticity and emotional richness, especially in her intimate portrayals of families and mothers.
With a B.F.A. in photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design, Adrienne opened her studio at just 22. Her energetic style, mastery of light, and “layering effect” quickly drew national attention, with her imagery appearing on magazine covers and recognition from organizations like WPPI and WPJA.
Adrienne Maples's latest images seen in "The Mother and… Project", deepens her exploration of the complex, often-overlooked facets of motherhood by emphasizing the tension and connection between self-discovery and familial identity. Through powerful images in her self-portraiture series, Adrienne invites viewers into intimate moments of vulnerability and reflection, spaces where the process of self-exploration tends to be overshadowed by the consuming nature of motherhood. Her photographs do not merely document her journey; they reveal the act of reclaiming selfhood while navigating the roles and expectations of being a mother.
Rich with authenticity, Adrienne's self-portraits spark curiosity and introspection, encouraging others to reflect on their own identities beyond caregiving. These images stand as a visual reminder: while motherhood can challenge and reshape personal identity, it also offers fertile ground for rediscovering one's inner landscape.
In her work, Adrienne consistently bridges the magical and the true, rendering each image with evocative storytelling and skilled use of light, making the invisible journey of maternal self-exploration both visible and profound.
